Driven by an unwavering love for the sun and a profound desire to create a sense of belonging, I embarked on the remarkable path that led to the creation of Casa Donny—a place named and dedicated to my late son, whose adventurous spirit continues to thrive within the enchanting walls of this special B&B.

A Journey to Andalusia: Finding Home in Spain

What began as a holiday adventure in 2016 soon transformed into a more permanent chapter of my life. By 2019, I was renting a beach in Los Alamos, Torremolinos, and it was here that I felt a profound shift within myself. Three years on that beach shaped me, introduced me to a circle of friends both Dutch and Spanish, and cultivated a deep sense of belonging. When I look back on that time, it’s not without recognizing the life lessons and the enduring respect I gained for the Spaniards and this beautiful country.

Building Casa Donny: A Journey of Resilience

Starting Casa Donny came with its own set of challenges, chief among them was realizing that I had to navigate this endeavor on my own. The journey started after my relationship ended, and suddenly, I was alone in a foreign land. Renovating the house was a substantial undertaking, but my work and connections in Torremolinos paved the way. I’m deeply grateful to those who offered their guidance and support during that transformative period.

Keeping Memories Alive: The Spirit of Casa Donny

Can anyone truly come to terms with the loss of a child, a sudden departure from life due to a tragic accident? The answer, unequivocally, is no. However, I decided to channel this profound sorrow into something positive. I was determined that my son’s name would live on, that his memory would continue to be cherished, for when that ceased, it felt as though he was slipping away. He was my soulmate, and I carry him with me always. I sense his presence as I travel this path, and I know he would have embraced this adventure here in Spain, hand in hand with me.
